Rita M. Bean, Ph.D., is Professor Emerita, University of Pittsburgh. Prior to joining the University, she taught at the elementary level and also served as reading specialist, K-12. She served as a member of the Board, International Reading Association, and was President, College Reading Association. Her newest book is, The Reading Specialist: Leadership for the Classroom, School, and Community (2nd edition).
