Some say the concerns about Pre-K testing in the new Race to Top – Early Learning Challenge program are a premature tempest in a teapot. Others see it as a new road to education hell, being paved with good intentions. We invited a diverse group of educators and advocates to come and help us make sense of it all.

Amanda Moreno, Ph.D., is the Associate Director of the Marsico Institute for Early Learning and Literacy at the University of Denver. She has written extensively about how to conduct appropriate early childhood assessment and the perils of high-stakes testing. Professor Sharon Lynn Kagan is Co-Director of the National Center for Children and Families at Teachers College, Columbia University. Maureen Kelleher is a journalist for Education Week who covered Chicago’s public schools for over a decade. Lisa Guernsey is the Director of New America’s Early Education Initiative.
