For years, afterschool workers have indicated a need for a body of knowledge, skills, a culture and a code of ethics that would professionalize the field and lead higher levels of public recognition. In April, at the NAA convention, the set of NAA adopted core competencies will be the centerpiece of the conference. Listen in to get a preview.

Frank Eckles was instrumental in forming the Texas Association of Child Care Workers (’70s) and worked with child care workers from across the United States to form the National Organization of Child Care Worker Associations. He was on the board of the Texas Youth and Child Care Worker Association. For over a decade, this group established the Child and Youth Care Certification Institute of Texas. Frank has trained hundreds of child and youth care practitioners and authored the nationally recognized Child and Youth Care: Basic Course.
