Prominent leaders from across the education community joined Secretary Arne Duncan via conference call, seeking answers to some of their constituents ‘ biggest concerns. Secretary Duncan fielded questions from leaders representing school principals, school superintendents, Head Start, child care and school business officials. Tough questions spanned the spectrum from dealing with unfunded mandates to gaining more support for early childhood education.

Arne Duncan was nominated to be secretary of education by President-elect Barack Obama and was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20, 2009. Prior to his appointment as secretary of education, Duncan served as the chief executive officer of the Chicago Public Schools.
