Understanding Response to Intervention

Response to intervention (RTI) is a strategy to help educators identify students with learning disabilities as early as possible and intervene appropriately. It is drawing increased attention these days. Karen Wixson is Professor of Education at the University of Michigan where she served as Dean from 1998-2005. Dr. Wixson, published widely in books and journals such as Reading Research Quarterly and the Handbook of Reading Research, has been a long-time participant in the development of the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) reading tests, and recently served as a member of the extended work team for the Common Core ELA standards, and is currently Co-chair of the IRA Commission on RTI.
